With pain in our hearts we want to share that Momoh Lahun Mansaray, one of our Surgical Health Officers, passed away last week.

In October 2017 Momoh was selected for the surgical training program. We came to know him as a very gentle person, slightly shy at the start. Momoh soon showed his commitment for the cause; he turned out to be a hard working student with a lot of compassion for his work. In October 2019 Momoh succesfully graduated from the program. We were very happy to see that he became a self-confident surgical officer with a clear purpose!

Before his housemanships Momoh became an indispensable member of the data collection team for the Prevalence Study for Surgical Conditions (PRESSCO). He took up the role as leader and spokesman for the data-collectors. Under very challenging circumstances (bad road network, difficult connectivity) he showed what he was capable of and helped motivating the whole group.

In his surgical work Momoh was skilled. He was liked by his patients and colleagues, whom he treated with the utmost respect. Proudly, he updated us frequently with cases, but also with pictures and stories from his personal life. It showed the dedication that he had towards the people around him. He was a proud husband, father and surgical officer.

Last week, Momoh was admitted with severe back pain at Kenema Governmental Hospital. Few days later he passed away, the cause remains unclear up until now. What is clear is that we, as members of the CapaCare Family will miss him dearly. Our thoughts go out to his family (his wife, daughter and son), his friends and colleagues Surgical Health Officers who became like a family to him.

Momoh, rest in perfect peace. We will not forget you.
