In the fall of 2018, 31 year old Wouter Nolet from Holland replaced Daniel Van Leerdam as CapaCare´s Program Coordinator in Sierra Leone. Wouter is a dutch medical doctor specialized in global health and tropical medicine. He is no stranger to Sierra Leone. After driving the 8500 km from Holland to Freetown in an old SAB, Wouter spent 6 months working at the Lion Heart Medical center in Yele. He also has work experience from Suriname and will be a great addition to our team. He has “big shoes to fill”, but we are confident he will be up to the task. The job as program manager is demanding and diverse. Among other things it involves leading and developing the local organization, communicating with ministry of health and other stakeholders, planning student rotations , organizing courses, hosting international trainers, as well as teaching and providing patient care. After two months of handover, Wouter took up the reins from his predecessor and videographer Ole Bakke had a chat with him about his experiences so far.
