Kyrre Nergaard

When did you stay at Masanga?
April/May 2012 and September 2013.

What was your motivation for going to Masanga?
Ever since I started working as a nurse I have always wanted to go to Africa and help people in a developing country. When Capa Care gave me the opportunity to go and help the people of Sierra Leone I said yes at once.

What was your first meeting with Masanga like?
I think it was good. The staff at the hospital and the STP students took god care of me and made me feel welcome.

What was your main duties while at the hospital?
Working at the OT, teaching the  STP students and the hospital staff.

What have you learned from this experience?
That you can do much with very little. To help the people at Masanga hospital is very giving work and I enjoyed it a lot.
Working with the STP students was a pleasure because they were always happy and smiling, eager to learn and always caring for their patients and colleagues. I think I learned more from them than they learned from me.

What is your advice to others that are thinking about going to Sierra Leone and Masanga?
Go with an open mind and remember to smile.
